Day Five
Sight seeing in New York City!!! We started the day with freshly toasted bagels provided by another generous lady from the church, and then divided into 4 groups, each led by an adult with a cell phone. The subway station was literally ½ block from the front door of the church and in about 30 minutes we were in midtown Manhattan. Martha had set up a hop-on, hop-off Gray Line Tour, so we got on double decker buses with our smaller groups and enjoyed narrated tours of the New York City sights. We all saw the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden to name a few sights. Some of the groups also spent time in Greenwich Village, Chinatown and Ground Zero. We all found that there is simply too much to see in one day and we barely scratched the surface of the Big Apple.
We met for supper at Tony di Napoli’s (Not sure of the spelling) near Times Square and had our fine dining event with some more delicious Italian food in a little more formal setting than Sal’s. Dessert included wonderful canoli and tiramisu.
The next stop was the Majestic Theater and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. The performance was top notch (this is New York theater, after all) and the staging and effects were amazing. We’re trying to figure out how to fit an enormous chandelier on the bus for next year’s New Wine tour.
After taking the subway back, we all slept like babies. Everyone was pretty tired – even the noisy boys.
