Day One
After goodbye hugs and awarding of the “Wally Award,” we’re off!! We had an uneventful driving day through Wisconsin, with a couple of stops at rest areas for lunch, snacks and ultimate Frisbee. 93 degrees, humid and 5 days until our next shower - Who gets to sit by the sweaty Frisbee players on the bus the next few days?
We arrived at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, IL around 5: 30, set up, ate left over steak tips for supper and performed for a very enthusiastic audience. The acoustics in the church were wonderful and the performance went well. The kids received a standing ovation and a generous offering. The church had a reception after the performance with cookies and ice cream, and sent us with several big bags of cookies for the bus. Thank you St. Luke’s!!!
The bus had some mechanical issues with the air pressure system, but not until after it delivered us safe and sound. After a trip to the shop overnight, it was ready to go the next morning.
